Pookie’s Rescue Fest

Sweet Georgia the M2 welcomes people to the Florida Parrot Rescue's table.

Pookie’s Rescue Fest
was held at Lake Lily in Maitland, Florida on January 28, 2012. This was the 4th annual fundraiser and adoption day to benefit local non-profit animal rescue groups. As it states on the website, “Animals being abandoned and turned in to local shelters continue to be at an all-time high due to current economic conditions and this event seeks to increase awareness and promote adoption of homeless pets.” This year’s event showcased 30 rescue groups with their adoptable dogs and cats…and parrots!

In amongst all the cats and dogs, the parrots were represented by the Florida Parrot Rescue, a 501c3 non-profit, all volunteer run, avian rescue dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of companion parrots.

The event was great! We did use a few of the posters. It really got some people who fell in love with the cockatoos we brought to realize there is a lot more to these creatures than talking, cuddling and dancing. Later in Feb. we are doing another large event and I will have more time to get them printed and displayed more professionally. Thank you so much for allowing us to use them. A picture is truly worth a thousand words and they were a quick and easy way to explain that parrots are really wild animals living in a human home.

Here are some photos from the event. You can see the posters on the front table! It looks like a fabulous time was had by all, and many people left having learned something new about parrots. What a success!
